What a Construction PM Does Daily

Construction Project Managers are responsible for the successful delivery of construction projects — on time, on budget, and to specification. A typical day spans both field and office: reviewing submittals and RFIs, running subcontractor coordination meetings, updating the master schedule, managing budget variance, and interfacing with the owner or owner's rep.

At mid-size GCs ($50M–$500M revenue), PMs typically run 1–3 projects simultaneously ranging from $5M to $100M. They own the subcontractor buy-out, change order negotiation, pay application approval, and project closeout including punch list and warranty.

Senior PMs mentor APMs and PEs below them, maintain key client relationships, and often participate in business development by supporting estimates or attending pre-bid meetings.

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • 5+ years of construction project management experience
  • Ground-up project experience preferred ($10M+ projects)
  • Proficient in Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or equivalent
  • Strong subcontractor management and relationship skills
  • Budget management and cost control experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • PMP certification preferred (or active pursuit)
  • Procore Certified Construction Professional (PCCP) a plus
